As of May 3, 2024, the Canadian GED test was officially replaced by the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), but Yukon has not adopted the CAEC.
The CAEC is now used in many provinces and territories as Canada’s high school equivalency test, but not in Yukon, British Columbia, Quebec, and Nunavut.

Does Yukon offer the CAEC test?
No. The Yukon does not currently offer the CAEC test.
Instead, adult learners in Yukon can explore other high school equivalency options, such as British Columbia’s Adult Dogwood program, which is available to Yukon residents.
Previously, Yukon offered the GED test, which cost $150 for all five tests or $30 per subject. If Yukon were to introduce the CAEC in the future, it’s likely that similar fees would apply.

What are Yukon’s alternatives?
Though the CAEC is not available in Yukon, residents have the opportunity to earn a high school diploma through the BC Adult Graduation Diploma (Adult Dogwood).
This program is recognized throughout Canada and allows adult learners to meet graduation requirements through academic upgrading.

For more information about this option, visit the Yukon Government High School Graduation page.
Who qualified for the GED in Yukon?
Under the GED program (now discontinued):
- Test-takers had to be at least 18 years old
- 17-year-olds could qualify with additional documentation
- Only residents of Yukon were eligible to write the exam
- If Yukon adopts the CAEC in the future, we expect similar requirements to apply.
About the CAEC test
The CAEC exam consists of five modular subtests:
- Mathematics
- Language Reading
- Language Writing
- Social Studies
- Science
These tests are timed and assess high school-level knowledge and skills. The exam is available in English and French, and it’s recognized across Canada by employers, post-secondary institutions, and government agencies.
